Sanda Kickboxing Rules - Youth Tournament Week

Overview

The Kickboxing divisions are designed to give the kids a chance to apply their striking knowledge in a friendly competition setting whilst reducing risk of injury. This is a controlled contact division, which awards points for correct techniques applied to the corresponding targets. The winner will be awarded based on the highest number of points when the time limit is reached.

 

Uniform & Equipment

Approved Boxing Gloves & Shin Gear (Individual gear required for workshop but official equipment will be supplied for tournament)

Chest Protector (Supplied for tournament)

Approved sports tshirt & shorts must be worn. No zips or buckles.

Mouthguard is required for all competitiors.

 

Rounds & Time Limits

The matches will consist of the best of three rounds, with 1 minute rest period between rounds. The round lengths are as follows:

  • Youth 3x 1.5 Minutes
  • Teens 3x 2 Minutes

Determining the Winner

  • The result of each round will be determined by the scoring by the side judges, according to the criteria listen below.
  • Should during a round, a competitor leave the competition area two (2) times, his or her opponent will be declared the winner of the round.

Scoring Criteria

The athlete with the highest score at the end of the competition time limit wins.

  • A competitor will be awarded two (2) points:
    • When the opponent is forced out of the competition area
    • When they remains standing while the opponent falls down
    • When they hit the opponent's torso with a leg technique
    • When the opponent receives a warning
  • A competitor will be awarded one (1) point:
    • When they hit the opponent's torso with a fist technique
    • When they hits the opponent's thigh with the leg technique
    • When they fall down after taking down the opponent
    • When he makes the opponent fall down by falling down himself on purpose, without being able to get to his feet by means of a follow-through
  • No point will be awarded to a competitor:
    • When the techniques he uses are not clean and effective
    • When both sides fall on or out of the competition area at the same time
    • When the opponent falls on purpose as a fighting technique
    • When striking from a clinch

Approved Fighting Methods

  • All standard punching and kicking techniques of kickboxing may be used
  • Controlled throws and sweeps

Prohibited Methods:

  • Attacking with the head, the elbow, or the knee, or by twisting the opponent's joints
  • Forcing the opponent to fall head over heels, or intentionally smashing or pressing him down
  • Hitting the opponent‟s head by any means when they are already down

Scoring Areas:

  • The torso and the thighs

Prohibited Areas (All Ages):

  • The head, the neck and the crotch
